ANALYSIS AND VERIFICATION OF RECOMMENDATIONS FOR SUCCESSFUL ROUTE REDISTRIBUTION BETWEEN ROUTING PROTOCOL INSTANCES

Abstract

This paper analyzes the technique of route redistribution between routing protocol instances. Although it is shown that redistribution is often used, its usage is followed by expressed problems. One of the causes of these problems comes from a lack of official recommendations from relevant organizations/associations which would tell how this technique should be implemented. As a result, it is often done inadequately or incorrectly. Instead of widely agreed and adopted recommendations, there are only specific recommendations from the various manufacturers of network equipment that are critically analyzed in this paper and their shortcomings are identified and presented. Finally, the paper presents recommendations that bring to the process of route redistribution features of security, robustness, availability and activation of backup path, even in the case of routing instances partitioning,. Featured recommendations are practically demonstrated and verified using the software package GNS.
