The contemporary medicine cannot exist without information technologies. Standards have the key role in the development of medicine, because they provide interoperability between different manufacturers of medical equipment. The most significant standards in medicine today are DICOM (Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine) and HL7 (Health
Level Seven). DICOM standard together with PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication Systems) systems present unique informational system for medical image storage, and HL7 standard defines unique protocol for the communication between different medical informational systems. Knowledge and application of these standards contribute to the significant cost cut in the healthcare institutions, as well as to making better medical decisions.
