Abstract
The television market is becoming increasingly important for telecom operators with the introduction of Internet Protocol TeleVision (IPTV). This paper presents an overview of services and basic concepts of its infrastructure. The transmission of IPTV services over wireless networks is taken into account, by using WiMAX system satisfying IEEE 802.16 set of standards for fixed, as well as mobile one. The structure of the WiMAX system, wireless local mesh networks, and access points are described. For telecom operators, the standardization of IPTV services in a unified service platform is of crucial importance. It was shown that IPTV is well suited for new services such as video-on-demand, time-shifted television, and personal video recorder.
