Abstract

Ever since the begining of the Internet and e-commerce the focus was in finding the right payment instrument capable of fulfilling the needs of a new business environment. Traditional payment methods based on cash and checks were more than inefficient in new conditions where transactions were to be processed in a split second. A great number of different payment systems, designed as a response to this need, were founded in past few decades. Some of them had more success than the others. Among many payment systems person to person systems were especially successful and noticed by the public. Payer’s and payee’s obligation to register and to open an account with P2P provider was the main criteria for defining the models described in this paper and a good theoretical framework for future research was established.
