Abstract

The main goal of this paper is to show and explain characteristics and capabilities of the newest OMG BPMN 2.0 standard for business process modelling. Namely, the new BPMN 2.0 version introduces some significant features which enable us to express semantics of business processes in a more precise, formal and elegant manner in comparison to its earlier versions or other modelling languages. However, numerous possibilities and variants which can be used for business processes modelling can represent a great difficulty in practice if BPMN 2.0 concepts are not properly understand and adequately used. To clarify matters, after brief introduction of basic BPMN 2.0 concepts, this paper introduces two main aspects used for business processes modelling. The first one is concerned with different perspectives (i.e. subdomains) used as fundamental modelling viewpoints, while the other one is concerned with different semantic abstract levels (i.e. level of details) at which a business process can be modelled. Numerous possibilities for modelling in BPMN 2.0 are then explained and discussed regarding the introduced aspects.
