Consideration of Concept Safety and Security in IT Context
Abstract
This study considers the concepts of security and safety in the context of information technology (IT). The aim is to examine this phenomenon on the basis of relevant facts in order to alleviate and reduce the problems that lead to its confusion and misunderstanding. For the realization of this aim, this study does not have a favored concept and deals with problems arising at the etymological, semantic and translational level. The results of the study are unambiguous and unequivocally indicate that it is about two different concepts, and not synonyms. Also, this paper identifies potential places of confrontation between these two concepts, and points to a huge influx of English IT terms in which these concepts form the basic base. Moreover, in our environment, multiple names exist for these terms and as such contribute to additional confusion and misunderstanding. In addition, this paper indicates that the problem of misunderstanding these concepts extends beyond IT and permeates into other domains. Finally, this paper indicates that there is no systematic dictionary of IT terms and gives directions for future research with special emphasis on defining the boundaries between these two concepts.
