Abstract

Rapid technological development encourages versatile uses of mobile devices in people´s lives. The complexity of resources of mobile devices bolsters progress in almost all fields, especially in daily activities. Limitations to the autonomous power supply represent a particular problem regarding mobile resources intended for crucial areas in life (public health or management of technological processes). On the other hand, the demand for new resources has led to the improvement of the web services. For the purposes of simplifying the process of communication between various Internet services, the REST standard has imposed itself as an affordable solution and exceeded SOAP in the field of mobile applications. According to the predictions of scientists, as well as business companies, devices connected to the Internet shall expand until 2020 in the form of IoT (Internet of Things). Thus, REST communication is already perceived as a solution which can be regarded as dominant in the near future. This paper presents new possibilities of measuring energy consumption during REST communication for the purposes of optimising energy consumption and increasing energy autonomy of mobile devices.
