Abstract

Constant development in the health care system leads to higher quality of healthcare services. We are witnessing the growth of elderly population in compare to total population for which it is necessary to provide long-term health and social care. Today we can distinguish several models of providing long-term care to patients. The basic elements of long-term care are philosophy of the system in terms of who is responsible (family or state), the manner in which the state organizes care (services, cash benefits, combined), the financing system and the degree of generosity of state support. The emphasis in this paper on the description of Buurtzorg model. The goal of this model is that patients regain the ability to care for themselves as soon and as much independently as possible, without the help of nurses. This approach, where the welfare of patients and their speedy recovery are placed as priorities of the organization, not the profits and savings, completely reversed the situation in the field of provision of home care in the world. In addition to an innovative organization, Buurtzorg attracted the attention of public and researchers with fantastic results that they have achieved in a short time. In an area, which traditionally is not inventive and turbulent, they succeeded for several consecutive years to achieve the highest growth in the country, to receive several awards for the best employer, to receive top marks by the users and to be the subject of a large number of published papers, as well as of couple of books.
