THE ROLE OF DIGITAL FORENSICS IN COPY-MOVE IMAGE FORGERY DETECTION

Abstract

Detecting and proving abuse of information technology has become one of the crucial issues of our time because of the consequences caused to the community, and the fact that traditional forensic methods and tools have become primitive and inefficient for use in the information environment. Although, in general, the manipulation of the image is not an exclusive phenomenon in the world of science, critics are concerned about the fact that it has never been so easy to modify the content and meaning of an image, often to such perfection that it is impossible to visually distinguish fake from authentic image. This paper presents current problem of copy-move forgery technique that allows concealing some important and useful information in the image. The purpose of this paper is to provide the survey of existing algorithms for copy-move forgery detection and to compare them in efficiency, complexity and resistance to different post-processing operations in order to propose the most efficient solution.
