Abstract
Locata technology can be defined as an innovative positioning technology which is terrestrially oriented and developed in order to improve, i.e. to support the GNSS system in specific environments where GNSS signals are degraded for any reason whatever. Through concept of LocaLite terrestrial-based transceiver, local area defined by the user is covered by stable and controlled Locata signals which are structurally similar to GPS signals and which make the positioning of Locata rover possible. Terrestrial Locata signal generators are synchronized via wireless TimeLock technology, which represents the greatest technical achievement of the Locata system. Locata signals are transmitted over the free to use ISM band (2.4 GHz), thus eliminating the possibility of interference with GNSS signals. On the other hand, Locata signals are much stronger, which enables the positioning both indoors and outdoors. This paper provides a brief overview of the development of Locata technology, its basic components, as well as the possibilities with respect to its application.
