The subject of this paper is the development and implementation of network infrastructure and services in an academic environment, and the implementation of network performance management system. Network infrastructure model is based on the principles of hierarchy and modularity. Network infrastructure components, technologies and protocols necessary for the functioning of the information system of the higher education institution are described. The paper describes Cacti performance management system, which can monitor the network, provide an overview of system performance, send alerts in case of exceeding certain thresholds, generate a variety of reports etc. The described model of network infrastructure, services and performance management system is implemented in the Laboratory for e-business, Faculty of Organizational Sciences, University of Belgrade.
