Abstract

Development of wireless technology and its increased use require the network security to be increased to the top level. Any communication in the wireless network represents a risk for it to be intercepted. The best interception and analysis method and SSID (Service set ID) extraction in WLAN networks is to use a Network Sniffer. Network sniffers are software applications which are able to follow data flow in the network, and these applications enable extraction of various information, eg. SSID, etc. This paper describes in details a concrete attack on a WLAN network, by using Aircrack-ng software. Also, this paper discusses what is WEP, sniffing methods, attacks on passwords, and software for attacks on WLAN networks, and how WLAN networks can be protected against attacks.
