Abstract

A fuzzy relational database models allow manipulation of imprecise and uncertain information. Crisp models have limitations and restrictions because they integrate precise and accurate information, while most of the information in the real world is"fuzzy". Normalization theory and E-R models are used for the logical database design of these models. In this paper we present the theoretical approach used for the logical modeling of fuzzy relational database design based on the q-fuzzy normal forms. Fuzzy functional dependencies play an important role in defining q-fuzzy normal forms. This framework is an extension of the normalization theory for the classical relational data modelrelated to attribute’s grouping in particular relations. Finally, we introduce the decomposition of fuzzy models into q-Fuzzy Third Normal Form (q-F3NF) with preserving existing dependencies.
