Abstract

A diagnostic system for recording, reading and analysing regular events, disruptions and failures of computercontrolled railway level crossing systems is described in the paper. A brief overview of the main disadvantages of existing diagnostic solutions is provided. Based on an in-depth assessment of the shortfalls of existing diagnostic systems and event recorders, the proposed approach purports to resolve some of the highlighted disadvantages, allowing for considerably improved maintenance and event recording. The suggested standardisation of regular events, disruptions and failures is consistent with state-of-the-art requirements of different railway administrations. A method for memorising diagnostic data is also proposed. PC-based software for local and remote data reading and processing is developed and implemented.
